Opinion - Midterm Elections
We are less than a couple of days away from the midterm elections, I encourage people who are register to go and vote on November 6, 2018. There will be competitive races between the Democrats and Republicans to gain control of the House, and the Senate. Including the Gubernatorial races which 36 races are up for grabs for either major two parties to take control of their own states. On the congressional side the Democratic Party will need at least 23 seats to gain control of the House of Representatives and 4 seats to gain control of the Senate. This is become the most anticipated midterm election in the 21st century and many races have been very competitive of trying to persuade voters.
For full disclosure I'm a 15 year old, who aligns with the Green Party and my opinion writing on this will not reflect the Green Party's values. I do support some of my colleagues who are running in the Congressional races within the Green Party. But if I had to choose a preference for which political party to gain control in Congress, then my preference would have to be for the Democratic Party.
I say this with proud encouragement, the GOP has had control of the House and Senate for 8 years, and I've strongly dislike the rhetoric and policies they have tried or put forth for America. My ethnicity and sexual orientation has reflected my values for this election, as a Gay Latino I am disgusted of the policies the GOP support or stayed quiet for the Trump administration within the issues of Immigration and LGBTQIA policies. The GOP wanted to repeal the Affordable Care Act in 2017 but didn't look for a replacement, and that would have left 28 million people uninsured health insurance including people with per-existing conditions.
In the final push to persuade voters, the Democratic Party has been bringing up issues such as: immigration reform, protecting health care, having stricter gun control policies, etc. While the GOP are wanting the opposite of the Democrats want, but most of the time the GOP doesn't provide solutions to the issues they bring up. My thought process heading into Tuesday will be praying to God that change will happen and that will start by having a Democratic Control either in House or the Senate.
No matter who you will vote for this upcoming Tuesday, make sure it will be the right choice that best represents you. Make sure when you get your ballot to analyze everything that has happen under the Trump Administration, and with a common-sense mind think about which political party should control the legislative branch, to represent the future of America the years to come.
